The virus transport medium (VTM) is applied for delivery of biosamples  known to contain viruses for subsequent molecular biology analysis. The reagent contains Hanks’ buffered salt solution (HBSS) with calcium and magnesium ions, inactivated fetal calf bovine serum, gentamicin and amphotericin B at concentrations recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

After collecting biological material, the samples are cooled to 2-8 °C, being subjected to further processing within 48 hours. If long-term storage is required, freezing up to -70 ° C or transportation on dry ice is required.
